Race Against Racism T-Shirt Design
Race Against Racism is an annual YWCA Lancaster 5K that brings the community together to support racial equity, education, and advocacy. I designed a t-shirt for an their event with all their values in mind.
The design process was guided by intention, symbolism, and function. A light green color palette was selected to represent growth, renewal, and balance—values closely aligned with the event’s mission—while maintaining a fresh, uplifting tone. The design was printed on a white shirt to reflect heat and keep runners comfortable, ensuring that function and aesthetics worked together seamlessly.
The final design features a bold, full-front graphic that makes an immediate visual statement while using minimal ink for breathability and comfort. The back of the shirt identifies each runner’s team, fostering unity and community, while maintaining visual consistency by incorporating the same graphic element from the front.
A subtle detail—the year of the race printed on the sleeve—adds a meaningful touch, transforming the shirt into a commemorative keepsake that allows participants to remember the specific year they took part.
